How to trim wooden wicks

everything you need to keep your home Cozy and Safe

How to light a wooden wick?

  • Use a lighter or match to hold the flame to the wick for 3-5 seconds to ensure it catches fire across the width of the wick.
  • Tilt the candle at an angle to help the flame draw along the length of the wick, similar to how you would light a match.
  • Ensure there are no strong drafts around the area before lighting the candle to help maintain the flame.
  • If needed, pierce through the wax where the wood meets the wax to allow air to flow in, which can help create a solid flame.
  • Be patient: It may take several tries to get the wick to light or relight, so don't be discouraged if it doesn't light immediately.

These methods will help you successfully light your wooden wick candle.

Candle Safety

  • Burn within sight on a level, heat resistant surface away from drafts, children, pets and flammable objects.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Do not touch hot glass on a burning or cooling candle. The jars can get very hot and should not be touched or moved until completely cooled.
  • Keep wax pool free of debris and wood wick trimmings. Dried florals may singe but will not catch fire.
  • Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room.
  • Never burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time. This will lead to excessive carbon build up on the wick and can cause the wick to become unstable, leading the wick to smoking and creating soot.
  • Always use extreme care when burning Wood Wick candles.
  • Make sure the wick is always trimmed down to about 1/8 of an inch.
  • Make sure Wood Wick candles are always out of reach of children and pets.

How to trim a wooden wick?

  • After your first use, when trimming wooden wicks, use a wick trimmer or scissors to trim the burnt wood. Leave approximately 1/8 inch (about 3mm) above the wax surface. Remove any excess debris from top of the candle before relighting.
  • If you trim your wick to short the flame might be weak or even extinguish itself. This is due to the wicks struggle to draw up enough wax.
